Intensive deforestation throughout Thailand has led to a sharp decrease in hunting areas in those areas, so today Thai Ridgeback is most often used to protect their owners, families and property. In Thailand, the possession of Thai Ridgeback is an indicator of social status. They have officials, businessmen, military, police officers.

Thai ridgeback is the national breed of Thailand.Thai Ridgeback is a primitive breed evolved from a wild Thai dingo dog, pariah-maa boran dog. The homeland of the Thai ridgeback is considered to be East Thailand. In nowdays   there are special farms in East of Thailand, funded by the state, where the dog is carefully preserved, the so-called gene pool.

As a breed, the Thai Ridgeback was recognized first in Thailand (Dog Association of Thailand), then by the Japanese Kennel Club (Japanese Kennel Club), the Asian Union (Asian Kennel Union), and in 1993 by FCI. The first standard of the breed, the Thai Ridgeback FCI No. 338, was adopted on July 28, 1993.  Over the 10  years of development of the breed, the standard has been refined and changed in several positions.

We'll talk about that in next article.

The first Thai ridgeback was exported from Thailand to Europe in 1990 by Ray Mersman from Holland. It was a blue male. Since then, the number of Thai ridgebacks in Europe is growing every year.
